About Mid-County Officials Network

Bay Area resident Dan Hughey founded Mid-County Officials Network more than 40 years ago. Also known as MCON, Mid-County Officials Network began as a one-man show. Dan has always had a passion for sports and over time, that passion manifested into a love for sports officiating, especially at the high school and college level.

He quickly found motivation beyond the extra income and became inspired to give back to his own local community by encouraging people of all ages to spend more time outdoors and practice a healthy lifestyle through sports. Not only are sports leagues healthy, but it’s a great way to meet members of your community, become part of a team, and set a positive example for your friends and family.

It didn’t take long for Dan to realize that he is only one person, and the need for qualified officials, referees, and umpires was much larger than something a single professional could take on. This encouraged him to build the foundation for his own association – a place where professionals could become part of something bigger than themselves and come together as a network. MCON referees and umpires have the experience and knowledge that gives coaches and players the comfort of knowing that they have the very best official for highly competitive sports at the high school and college level.

Just as the name Mid-County Officials Network suggests, Dan wanted members to represent a network of highly qualified and skilled sports officials. To achieve this, he works hard to provide resources and training clinics so all members have the opportunity to officiate at all levels; especially high school and college softball, intramural adult leagues, youth sports, and high-level tournaments. It is through this high-level experience that officials develop professional skills and knowledge so they can advance to competitive leagues and college level officiating.

Dan loves sharing his passion for sports, officiating, and providing sports officials for the athletic programs of the community so that everyone can play organized sports. He sees it as a community service to supply officials for these games because he knows how important sports are to instill discipline and health at any age.

MCON members are held to the highest professional standards. Above all, the network is built around umpires, referees, and officials with a passion for sports and commitment to professionalism, punctuality, and patience. They are reliable and show up for every assignment prepared to work with coaches, players, and administrators.

As coaches and administrators, your feedback is important to us. We hold every official to the highest standards and we want to hear directly from you. Please fill out this form to evaluate your official. We are interested in both what they are doing well and things that can be improved on. We read every evaluation and use them to provide the very best service possible. We understand that sometimes an official is forced to make a close call; please keep in mind that the goal of these evaluation forms is not to reverse a call you disagree with. Please provide feedback on our site that relates to the official’s professionalism, punctuality, knowledge, and your overall experience.

MCON is always looking for new members. Regardless of your experience level, we will provide you with the training tools you need to become a valuable referee, umpire, or sports official. Even if you have no experience… you can learn from the very best and surround yourself with experienced and supportive members of MCON. We would love to have you join our team today!
